Outside of the US,
DTL has brought respite to caregivers in Cambodia and Romania.
Stay tuned on social media to find out about upcoming trips!
Cambodia
We believe that God has called us to more than just a single, “short-term mission trip. We believe He has called us to a long-term relationship with the individuals He has placed in our lives— to invest in them as members of our own family, caring for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, and to partner with them to see the Kingdom of God advance in their nation.
In order for change to occur, and to truly participate in “making disciples of all the nations” as each one of us has been commissioned to do, we must consider the importance of returning to the people and places that Jesus has entrusted us to carry the gospel to; we are sent by God not just once, but again and again, so long as the cry of our heart is “yes!”
Just as Paul expresses in his letters to the church in Philippi and Thessalonica*, making mention of his partnership in the gospel with the residents there and his time spent living among them, we too look forward to every time God provides an opportunity to journey to Cambodia. And we too are confident that “He who began a good work will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”(Philippians 1:6, NIV).

NGOs We Partner With:
Heart of Hope
Located in a Vietnamese fishing sector within Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh, where violence, alcoholism, gambling, drugs, and sexual abuse, are common.
Heart of Hope is providing education for at-risk children in the area, as well as the opportunity to grow in relationship with Jesus. They are careful to respect the students home life and maintain healthy boundaries, encouraging each child to carry hope and light back to their families.
The staff has witnessed an incredible decrease in children being sent into child labor and/or sexual exploitation. Kids are choosing to stay in school, and it’s making a big difference!
We adore the way that the Lord connected us with Heart of Hope and are honored by every opportunity we have to get involved.
Cambodian Care
What do you do when you’re a kid who’s desperate to learn and the grownups won’t build you a school? You build it yourself. Such was the case for a group of children in the slums of Phnom Penh when
Cambodian Care began to provide the resources for the construction of classrooms. Koy and Reny, the directors of Cambodian Care, are a husband and wife team and the pioneers of not just one school, but three schools, located in some of the most impoverished areas of Cambodia.
However, this is not the extent of their work— Koy and Reny have also implemented church services and discipleship training as a main focus of their ministry, and invite their entire community to grow in the presence of God.
A firm belief that children are the light of the future, motivates Cambodian Care to continue to create opportunities for underprivileged youth and press on towards their goal of seeing 200 schools planted throughout the country; they have seen it proven that expanding education, and expanding the Kingdom, go hand-in-hand.
This couple’s joy is infectious, and their dedication to seeing every child become a member of the family of God is a beautiful sight to behold. They are bold in their faith and show others on a daily basis what it looks like to “stop for the one”.
Precious Women
Thousands of vulnerable women in the nation of Cambodia are trapped in careers that have stripped them of their self-worth. They have been forced to look for work in massage parlors, karaoke bars (KTV), and beer gardens. Once hired, women are suddenly at the disposal of paying customers; they are pressured to negotiate for sexual favors and suffer from ongoing sexual harassment and exploitation.
Precious Women’s vision is to see all exploited women who have worked in Cambodia’s entertainment industry live with dignity, equality, and hope. Through scholarship and vocational training, counseling and health support, and the Butterfly Home, Precious Women is releasing freedom and healing into the lives of women and girls.
Their staff are some of the most gracious people we have met, and we feel extraordinarily blessed to be partnering with this organization.
Romania
Volunteering with Firm Foundations Romania, serving at the Children’s Hospital in Brașov, where babies are continually abandoned, due in large-part to families being unable to afford proper care for their children.
In January 2005, a new law was instated regarding abandoned children in Romania. Children under the age of two were no longer to be placed in orphanages. By July of that year, the orphanages closed including the Brașov orphanage where the Firm Foundations (FFR) team was working.
These infants are temporarily looked after by hospital staff until they can be moved to a home or center.
However, while the bare necessities are provided, these little ones are left without any intentional human touch, which is so vital to their well-being and development. That’s where Firm Foundations volunteers come in, offering play, joyful interaction, and nurturing physical contact, as well as assisting the nurses with feeding and changing.
Unbeknownst to them, these small, fragile lives depend on the willingness of compassionate individuals around the world.
When we have visited Romania, we have volunteered at the hospital to give these moments of play, joyful interaction, nourishment, and more. This has allowed us to bless the babies, and give the caregivers within the hospital and Firm Foundations to get some well deserved rest.
